The Master of Education

Teacher Education, M.Ed.  The General Education Teaching Emphasis is designed for students who want to pursue a Multiple Subject or Single Subject teaching credential and combine coursework for a Master of Education degree.

The 12-month program of full-time study consists of professional and graduate level courses and the preparation of a Teaching Performance Assessment Portfolio.

Students complete four graduate level courses during Summer Session and combine professional and graduate level courses in the subsequent fall, winter, and spring quarters to meet California teaching licensure and graduate degree requirements.

The program's goal is to produce innovative teachers:

  • Who can use educational theory and research to inform their teaching
  • Who will use technology in meaningful ways to enhance teaching and learning
  • Who will become leaders in their respective school districts

Applicants for this program are evaluated on the basis of :

  • GPA (undergraduate GPA of 3.2 or above)
  • Grades received in prerequisite courses: EDUC109, EDUC110, EDUC116, and EDUC172 (Multiple Subject candidates) or EDUC174 (Single Subject candidates)
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Passage of the Basic Skills and California Subject Examinations for Teachers exams
