May 29, 2009

The Vivian Eyman Memorial Award honors high academic achievement and outstanding instruction delivered in a public school classroom by a student teacher in the UCR Teacher Education Program in the Graduate School of Education.
In her fellowship essay, Rachael wrote "As a teacher, one of my greatest challenges has been to step away from the hours of lesson plan preparation work and to simply teach to the moment."
Her teacher supervisor, Karen Dodson, had this to say about Rachael, "Even though Rachael is raising two young children, balancing a full student workload, student teaching four full days a week and working towards her M.Ed, she has never complained. She has yet to turn in an assignment late. I believe that Rachael is representative of the best that the University of California, Riverside has to offer education."
