The School Psychology Program at the University of California, Riverside considers academic performance [GPA (typically above 3.5); GRE (combined typically above 1100)], writing sample, ability to interact with others and past resesearch and applicable work experience when choosing applicants. Most students come with an undergraduate degree in psychology, or related behavioral science field. Prospective applicants are also interviewed by a team of faculty members.
The admissions process for GSOE’s School Psychology program is very competitive and designed to create a strong match between student interests and the program’s focus and capabilities. We typically accept 5 or 6 Ph.D. students each year. The process consists of:
  1.  Application materials as required by Graduate division and GSOE requirements. All materials must arrive to UCR by January 5th (Except Psych GRE Score). Ensure that your application clearly indicates “School Psychology.” The personal statements are important and read very closely. Please highlight your research interests and your anticipated goals in the profession.
  2.   An interview with School Psychology faculty and current students will occur during the last week of February or the first week of March. All application materials will be reviewed and approximately 15 applicants will be selected for an on-site interview. We highly recommend that applicants attend the on-site interview, but we can also conduct phone interviews.
  3.  A decision will be made by the second week of March and all accepted students will be sent a letter from the Graduate Division. The Graduate Division will also determine the type of fellowships that are available and will notify students about the fellowships in the acceptance letter.
  4.  Admitted students have until April 15th to inform UCR of their decision to accept or decline the offer. If a large number of students choose to attend other universities, it is possible that additional offers to students who were not originally offered admission will occur after this date.
