UCR 55th Commencement Ceremony
Graduate School of Education (GSOE)
Ph.D. recipient, Jan Osborn, delivers commencement speech.
June 15, 2009

More than 80 students, receiving a Ph.D., M.Ed., or teaching credential, attended the GSOE commencement ceremony on June 15, 2009. This was the first year that GSOE had its very own graduation ceremony for education students. Jan Osborn, who received her Ph.D. in the field of curriculum and instruction, was the GSOE student speaker. Dr. Osborn spoke about the “joy of the occasion” and how she was thrilled that family, friends, and classmates were there to share in her accomplishment. The keynote speaker was UCR Chancellor Timothy White, who challenged graduates to live up to their potential despite the present difficult times. Master’s of Education student Heather Haber served as the Student Marshal. Kenneth Noller delivered the alumni salute. Noller graduated from UCR in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in history, followed by a teaching credential in 1976 and a Master’s degree in history in 1984. Rachael Bedolla received this year’s Vivian Eyman Memorial Award in Teacher Education. This award is given to the highest achieving and most promising individual completing the teacher education program. A reception for graduates, friends, and families immediately followed the ceremony and was held on the Sproul Hall lawn in front of the Graduate School of Education.
