Teacher Education Teams Up
With Adopted Class for Read Across America
March 2nd, 2010:
Candidates in the Multiple Subject Credential Program joined Director of Teacher Education Dr. Anne Jones and UCR GSOE alumna Alejandrina Vasquez and her Kindergarten class at Foothill Elementary School in Alvord Unified to participate in national Read Across America Day. This holiday honors the life and work of Theodore Geisel, better known as the prolific children’s author Dr. Seuss. Dr. Jones and Student Teachers Johnanna Vinueza and Heather Baxendale celebrated with the Foothill students in Cat in the Hat garb, reading stories
and sharing snacks together. The students and staff in the GSOE Teacher Education Programs adopted Ms. Vasquez’ Kindergarten class this year as part of the No Excuses University Network , a program recently noted as important for supporting student achievement by Riverside County Superintendent Kenn Young.
