School Psychology
Overview
The Graduate School of Education (GSOE) offers an APA accredited and NASP approved Ph.D. program in School Psychology that also leads to a state of California Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credential.
Using an eco-behavioral theoretical model, the program emphasizes developing skills in school environments including acquiring experience in systems reform and the implementation of the Response To Intervention (RTI) approach to School Psychology service delivery. The program uses a scholar-scientist –practitioner philosophy of training that emphasizes the use of scientific based practices and producing research to inform practice. Graduates primarily work in school and university settings. More information about graduate student outcomes is available here.
This is a full-time program and is typically completed in approximately five years, four years on campus and a fifth year internship. Admission to the program is competitive and prospective applicants are encouraged to review the School Psychology web site to learn more about the admission process. The majority of applicants enter the Ph.D. program after completing a bachelor’s degree; however, individuals who already have a master’s degree in School Psychology can apply as well. All students in the program are advised by the School Psychology core faculty, but there are also opportunities to collaborate and possibly be co-advised by Special Education and Educational Psychology faculty.
Note: Currently, the program does not offer a Masters and PPS Credential only program.
