The school psychology program at UC Riverside’s Graduate School of Education, or GSOE, has been reaccredited by the American Psychological Association, or APA.

The 10-year accreditation, granted on Nov. 11, represents the highest number of years for which the association designates that status.

GSOE offers a five-year doctoral program in the field of school psychology that prepares students for internships and careers in public education or as faculty members at higher-education institutions.

The recognition reflects the strength of the program in training, evaluating, and supporting student success, said Austin Johnson, the program director and an assistant professor.

“We take this success as a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our program's faculty, students, and administrative support staff,” he said. “We have a genuinely remarkable set of doctoral students who are passionate about supporting children and teachers in schools, particularly students from historically minoritized communities.”

The program, which has been APA-accredited since 2004, is one of only three doctoral programs in California with APA accreditation and the only one in Southern California.

Its graduates have gone on to become faculty members, school psychologists, and school administrators. This past year, 100% of its students were matched with internships through the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers.
