Are you interested in a career in a sports related field?

The undergraduate minor in Athletic Leadership prepares and inspires students to excel in competitive leadership positions in sports related fields, including:

  • Sports Management
  • Sports Administration
  • Coaching
  • Fitness and Wellness
  • Community/Youth Sports

The Undergraduate Minor in Athletic Leadership, established in 2020, is designed to equip students for leadership roles within the sports industry. This includes various fields such as sport administration (scholastic, collegiate, and professional), sport management, coaching, community and youth sports, fitness clubs and wellness organizations, and parks and recreation.

The curriculum is structured to integrate current research, applied theory, contemporary issues, policy challenges, and practical skill development. A core aim of this minor, aligning with the School of Education's vision, is to leverage education for equity, justice, and positive change in athletics.

The minor requires a total of 20 units, comprising one lower-division course and four upper-division courses. Many courses are available in both face-to-face and fully online formats. Students have the option to undertake a capstone project with a faculty advisor, focusing on a sports-related topic of their choice. Internship credit hours are also available for practical experience, provided they are approved by an academic advisor. Students are responsible for securing their own internships.
