Single Subject Credentials: Middle & High School

Single Subject Credentials: Middle & High School

UC Riverside's Single Subject Credential program prepares you to be an outstanding teacher or a leader in a school district. You will learn through peer cohort and experienced teacher mentorship. By the time you complete the program, you will have a credential to teach in California, a designation that is widely accepted in other states and gives you access to various career options. You can choose to earn your single subject teaching credential only, or a joint Master’s in Education with single subject teaching credential. Both programs run concurrently, and both are a one-year cohort model program.

The program provides you with a Single Subject Teaching Credential

  • The Single Subject Teaching Credential authorizes you to provide instruction in classrooms in secondary schools (usually grades 7-12)
  • The one-year cohort model program begins in Summer quarter (June) and ends the following Spring quarter (June)

The program prepares you to teach secondary school (middle/high school) in one of the following subjects:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Social Science
  • Science (Biology, Chemistry, Geoscience, Physics, and General Science)
  • World Languages (Spanish)

The UCR Teacher Education Program is accredited by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Questions related to accredited status should be directed to the CTC Commission on Accreditation: Accreditation@ctc.ca.gov  https://www.ctc.ca.gov/educator-prep/psd-contact
