    • International Baccalaureate (IB) credit – Please work with the International Baccalaureate to make sure your exam scores are sent to UCR before your orientation session.
    • Transferable credit from another college/university – Please make sure you send official transcripts to UCR Undergraduate Admissions before your orientation session.
  • Confirm Your English Placement
Advanced Placement (AP) exam scores will be available in early July.

The Entry-Level Writing Requirement (ELWR) is a University of California reading and writing proficiency requirement that all first-year students must satisfy.  The ELWR must be satisfied either before beginning courses at UCR or during the first year of enrollment.  You can satisfy the Entry-Level Writing Requirement by earning qualifying test scores and grades or passing the Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE).

The SOE strongly encourages all incoming first year students to take the Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE) regardless of your expected AP results.

Taking the AWPE provides the SOE with the necessary placement information to create your Fall schedule if your AP exam scores arrive after your Highlander Orientation session. It is also possible that your exam score may not impact your Fall schedule.

The SOE will honor the highest placement results.  If you receive your test scores after your orientation session and those scores impact your Fall schedule, please contact the SOE for help in adjusting your schedule. You will receive more information about this process during your Virtual Advising session.

Additional information on the ELWR and the AWPE can be found here.

    Notes:
    • We strongly encourage you to make sure your AP scores are sent to UCR.
    • Failure to confirm your English placement may prevent you from registering for an English course during your Orientation session.
The following exam scores may impact your Fall  schedule:

  • Confirm Your Math Placement
The College Board reports Advanced Placement (AP) exam scores will be available in early July.
With that in mind, the SOE strongly encourages all incoming freshmen to consider taking the Mathematics Advisory Exam (MAE) regardless of your expected AP results if you plan to pursue a secondary major, minor, or career field that requires math. The MAE is an online placement test which places first-year students into an appropriate entry-level Mathematics course.  Taking the MAE provides the SOE with the necessary placement information to create your Fall 2022 schedule if your AP exam scores arrive after your Highlander Orientation session. It is also possible that your exam score may not impact your Fall schedule.

The SOE will honor the highest placement results.  If you receive your test scores after your orientation session and those scores impact your Fall schedule, please contact SOE for help in adjusting your schedule. You will receive more information on this process during your Orientation session.

Find additional information on the Mathematics Advisory Exam here

    Notes:
    • We strongly encourage you to make sure your AP scores are sent to UCR.
    • For AP scores, students can access Score Reports here.  The Score Reports can be used as documentation for math placement.
    • Failure to confirm your math placement may prevent you from registering for a math course if needed while working toward a secondary major, minor, or career pathway that may require math during your Orientation session.
    • Students can only register for a math course with an MAE score, AP Calculus credit, IB Mathematics credit, or transferable Math college credit.
    • You will need documentation of this credit to register for the appropriate mathematics course.
