Highlander Advising Support & Registration (Online)
Meet with SOE Academic Advisors to enroll in your Fall 2026 courses.
Important: Course registration occurs only during the Highlander Advising Support & Registration online session, not during Highlander Orientation.

If you have any questions about Highlander Orientation, please visit the Highlander Orientation website

  • If you’re coming to UCR with college credit, we need your official transcripts before your Highlander Advising Support & Registration online session so you may enroll in the correct course.

Here is how to send them:
    •    AP Scores:
Log into your College Board account and send your scores to the UCR Office of Admissions.
    •    IB Credit:
Access the International Baccalaureate Service Request to have your official transcripts sent directly to the UCR Office of Admissions.
    •    Community College or University Classes: Request official transcripts from all Community Colleges/Universities you have previously attended and send them to the
    UCR Office of Admissions.

Pro Tip: Do this as soon as possible. If your credits aren't in the system by your Highlander Advising Support & Registration online session, you may be registered in a class you have already completed.

  • Entry-Level Writing Requirement (ELWR) & Writing Placement Process (WPP)

All new students must finish the ELWR by the end of their first year. You can do this with high test scores (AP/IB), specific grades, or the Writing Placement Process (WPP).

    Ways to Satisfy ELWR
Students may satisfy the Entry Level Writing Requirement by any one of the following ways:

    Critical Steps:

    • Ensure your AP scores are sent to the UCR Office of Admissions as soon as possible.
    • Complete the WPP prior to your Highlander Advising Support & Registration online session.

    Why take the WPP?

    • AP scores usually arrive in July. This is too late for early course registration.
    • Taking the WPP helps SOE Advisors build your Fall schedule on time.
    • SOE Advisors will always use your highest score. A low WPP result won't hurt you if your AP score is better.
    • If your AP scores arrive later and change your level, SOE Academic Advisors will help you switch classes before the start of Fall 2026 quarter; pending course availability.

If you completed an English Composition Course at a CA Community College, please visit assist.org to verify how your English Composition course(s) will transfer to UCR. Please ensure that all official transcripts with previous English course credit is submitted to the UCR Office of Admissions.

Access additional information at the Undergraduate Admissions Office website

  • Math Placement Assessment (MPA)

Even though the Education, Society, and Human Development major does NOT require math; many other majors and minors at UCR do. Thus why we highly recommend all of our majors to take the MPA.

    Why take the MPA?
    •    AP scores don't arrive until July. Taking the MPA now ensures you can potentially enroll in a Math course in Fall 2026.
    •    UCR always uses your highest result. If your AP score is better than your MPA score, they will honor the AP credit.
    •    You cannot sign up for a Math class at UCR without a score from the MPA, AP Calculus, IB Math, or a transfer college course.

    Action Items
    •    Make sure the
UCR Office of Admissions receive your official scores from the College Board.
    •    If you don't have a confirmed placement by your Highlander Advising Support & Registration online session, you won't be able to enroll in a Math class.

Access more information at the MPA website
Official Transcripts, AP, and IB Scores must be sent to the UCR Office of Admissions

  • Finding Your Placement Results

Reviewing your placement results and exam credits early ensures a smooth registration. Having this info ready helps the SOE Academic Advisors place you in the right courses without delay.

Before your Highlander Advising Support & Registration online session, please review your placement information and exam credit in your Student Profile on R’Web:

    • Log into your R’Web account
    • Select “Student Profile” → “Prior Education and Testing”

In your Student Profile, you can view the following scores/credit:

    • Math Placement Assessment (MPA)
    • Writing Placement Process (WPP)
    • AP
    • “Unofficial Transcript” for any transferable college coursework

If your AP exam credit is not yet posted, you must provide a PDF copy of your Score Report to enroll in the appropriate course. Access your scores at the College Board Website.

Once you have your PDF Score Report:

    • Log in to your eLearn Canvas portal and upload the PDF or email it to edundergrad@ucr.edu. Please include your UCR SID (Student ID number 86...) in the email.
    • Have it ready to use when enrolling during the Highlander Advising Support & Registration online session.

    Importance:
Completing these steps ahead of time ensures you can register for the correct courses during the Highlander Advising Support & Registration online session. Without verified placement results or supporting documentation, you won't be able to enroll in required courses, which could delay your academic progress.

  • If you have additional questions, you can email the the SOE Undergraduate Programs at edundergrad@ucr.edu by following these instructions:

    1. Send the email from your UCR email account
    2. Use the subject line: First Name + Last Name + Orientation (ex: John Doe Orientation)
    3. Start your email with your 9-digit Student Identification (SID) number in the body of the email (86-------)
    4. List all your questions in one email with as much information as possible and allow about one week for the team to respond.
